Potter ninth, Phillips 10th at state powerlifting meet

DOWAGIAC — Senior Madison Potter placed ninth at the Michigan High School Powerlifting Association’s state finals at North Branch High School March 6.

Potter qualified for the state meet by placing second at the regional hosted by Edwardsburg on Feb. 22.

At the state meet, Potter competed in the 220-pound division. She lifted a total of 610-kilograms. She competed in the squad, bench and dead lift. Potter had three lifts in each event. Her best squat was 205 kilograms, 125 kilograms in the bench and 280 kilograms in the dead lift.

Decatur’s Jania Green finished seventh in the 242-pound division with a total lift of 685, while Marcellus’ Katie Marsh was second in the 132-pound division. She finished with a total lift of 695.

Evan Phillips won the regional competition at Edwardsburg. He placed 10th in the 242-pound division. He had a total lift of 1,145 kilograms. His best squat was 400 kilograms, best bench was 275 kilograms and best dead lift was 470 kilograms.

Carson Sumners, of Marcellus, was eighth in the 194-pound division. He had a total lift of 1,125 kilograms.

Edwardsburg’s Bennett Myers finished eighth in the 275-pound division with a total lift of 1,200 kilograms. His best squat was 260, best bench 520 and his best dead lift 510.
