City of Niles to host community meeting

NILES — The city of Niles will host a community meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Niles Riverfront Park Amphitheater, as, on Monday, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer authorized gatherings of up to 100 people provided social distancing is observed.

“We encourage everyone attending to observe social distancing and wear a mask,” said City Administrator Ric Huff. “Bring a chair or something to sit on so you are comfortable in the grass area around the amphitheater.”

Mayor Nick Shelton, Police Chief James Millin and other guests will moderate the community meeting focusing the discussion on national events, their effect on our lives and how the city of Niles can learn from and grow as a result of these events.

“We look forward to hearing firsthand how the past and the present affect the lives of Niles’ citizens,” Huff said. “We are hopeful Niles’ citizens will provide constructive feedback so their local government can better respond to everyone’s needs.”

The meeting will be limited to an hour and 30 minutes, and additional meetings will be scheduled as necessary to address resident concerns.

“We are hopeful everyone will be respectful of each other’s time, positions and opinions so as many people as possible can be heard from during the allotted time frame,” Huff said.
